We Serve to Remember 9/11 Day of Service Grants
Youth Service America (YSA) is offering the We Serve to Remember 9/11 Day of Service Grants for organizations, schools, and youth changemakers aged 5 to 25. These grants support service projects to be conducted on or around September 11, 2024, honoring those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, their families, and those who responded heroically.
This year, YSA will award up to 100 grants of $1,000 each. Grant recipients must engage at least 100 youth as volunteers in the planning and execution of service activities. Notably, 80% of these youth volunteers should come from groups that face systemic barriers to participation, including:
- Youth of Color**: Black, Hispanic, Asian, and Indigenous youth
- Youth from Low-Income Families and Underserved Neighborhoods
-Youth Typically Beneficiaries of Service**: Youth in rural communities, homeless youth, youth in foster care, youth with disabilities, youth in the juvenile justice system, immigrant or refugee youth, military family youth, LGBTQ+ youth, and English language learners
Key Project Requirements:
- Youth-Led Initiatives**: Projects must be designed and led by youth.
- Commemorative Elements**: Projects must include activities that honor and pay tribute to the victims of 9/11, their families, and those who served in response to the tragedy.
- Timing**: Projects must take place on or around September 11, 2024, the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
- Diverse Participation**: At least 80% of youth volunteers must be from groups that are typically underrepresented in service activities.
- U.S. Based**: Applicants and activities must be based in the United States, including American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Washington, D.C.
-Compliance and Documentation**: Activities must comply with federal regulations (Title 45, Section 2520.65). Grantees must provide evidence of volunteer participation and hours served, using documentation such as sign-in sheets, pre-and-post-surveys, or reports from school attendance or volunteer management systems. Documentation must include a unique identifier for each volunteer.
