FREE AI CERTIFICATE FROM CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY AFRICA
📅 Closes 15 November 2026
Most AI courses teach you to use tools built for someone else’s problems. This one is built around ours.
Carnegie Mellon University Africa has opened applications for its Certificate in Artificial Intelligence for Africa. It is a six-course online programme, and it is free for qualified applicants.
📚 WHAT YOU WILL STUDY
Two courses give you context: Artificial Intelligence, Past, Present and Future, and AI and Machine Learning in Africa.
Four courses are technical: Python for AI, Mathematical Foundations of Machine Learning, Machine Learning Essentials and Applied Generative AI.
The courses were designed by Carnegie Mellon engineering professors.
🛠 WHAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO
⏱ HOW IT WORKS
Each course has 14 or 15 lessons of about three hours each, so roughly 45 hours per course. Plan for at least five to six hours a week. Do the sums: six courses at that pace is close to a year of steady work.
You earn a digital badge for each course, and a shareable, verifiable certificate when you finish all six. It does not carry university credit.
✅ WHO CAN APPLY

“Free” covers the programme. The call does not say CMU-Africa provides a laptop or data, so budget for those yourself.
📝 WHAT TO SUBMIT
