Opportunity Title: AU Enterprise Africa Network (EAN) Fellowship 2026/27

Most startup programmes on the continent come with conditions that quietly exclude the majority of the people who need them most. They are sector-specific, or restricted to a single country, or designed for businesses that have already hit a revenue threshold most early founders have not yet reached. The African Union Enterprise Africa Network Fellowship 2026/27 is built differently.

It is open to enterprises from all 55 African Union Member States. It spans all sectors. And it is explicitly designed for youth-led and women-led businesses — the exact category of enterprise most programmes overlook while claiming to support African entrepreneurship.

One hundred fellows will be selected. They will receive expert training, mentorship from experienced business leaders, intellectual property support, and access to market opportunities across the continent. The programme is not aspirational about what it expects to deliver. Cohort 2 has a concrete target: USD 2 million in new attributable revenue and 500 new jobs created by participating enterprises. That is an institutional commitment backed by the African Union Commission's Department of Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals.

The deadline to apply is 30 September 2026. Successful applicants will be notified in October 2026 and the programme begins in November 2026.

What the Fellowship Provides

Structured training covering business development, financial management, digital tools, and market entry strategy. Expert mentorship from business professionals operating across Africa. Intellectual property support — guidance on protecting your innovations, trademarks, and competitive advantages. Market access opportunities — introductions to buyers, distributors, and partners within and beyond your home country. Recognition as an AU Enterprise Africa Network Fellow, which carries genuine weight with investors, institutional partners, and procurement bodies across the continent.

Who Should Apply

Youth-led enterprises where the primary founders or owners are young Africans. Women-led enterprises where women hold primary decision-making and ownership roles. MSMEs operating in any sector across all 55 African Union Member States. Businesses that are registered and operational with demonstrated traction. Founders who are committed to the full programme duration and available to participate in scheduled sessions and activities.

The application collects information about your business registration, sector, years of operation, number of employees, countries where you currently trade, revenue range, intellectual property status, and access to formal finance. You will also submit a written pitch of up to 800 words explaining your enterprise, your primary market challenge, and what you hope to achieve through the fellowship.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted online through the AU EAN Fellowship portal. Do not wait for the last week. The application requires thought — particularly the 800-word pitch — and a rushed pitch almost always shows.

Bankable Wisdom Tip: The 800-word pitch is the centre of your application and the thing that will determine whether you are selected or not. Do not spend it describing what your business does. Every applicant does that. Spend it on the problem you solve, for whom, with what evidence that your solution is working, and what specifically the EAN Fellowship will unlock for your enterprise that you cannot unlock without it. Concrete evidence beats inspiring language every single time in competitive fellowship selection.
