Opportunity Title: Open Call: Mentorship Program for East African Curators


ICI, Njabala Foundation, and AWARE Mentorship Program Application

Overview

The International Curators Institute (ICI), in collaboration with Njabala Foundation and AWARE: Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions, is offering a 6-month mentorship program for emerging female-identifying curators in East Africa. Themed “Curating as multiplying mediation and access to culture,” this program aims to support emerging arts workers by providing a platform for development, resource enhancement, research, discourse, and engagement with established curators from the region and beyond.

Program Goals

  • Develop the practice of emerging curators
  • Provide resources and enhance research and discourse
  • Raise awareness about gender issues in East Africa
  • Support female-identifying artists, curators, and educators

Eligibility

  • Female-identifying cultural workers based in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in curating, arts, or working with artists
  • Ability to participate in virtual mentorship sessions and one in-person group meeting in Kampala, Uganda (date TBD)

Application Requirements

  • Deadline: August 15, 11:59 PM EAT
  • Submission: Applications should be submitted through the designated application portal

Application Components:

  1. Project Description: Outline the project you wish to develop during the mentorship, including the next three steps for moving the project forward. Projects must engage with female-identifying artists, creative producers, or publics (400 words max).
  2. Letter of Intent: Explain why you want to participate in this program and describe your specific mentorship needs (300 words max).
  3. Bio: Provide a biography detailing relevant experience (250 words max).
  4. Work Sample/Portfolio: Upload as an attachment.
  5. CV: Upload as an attachment.
