African Union AfCFTA Internship (African Continental Free Trade Area)

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is the world's largest free trade area, uniting the 55 countries of the African Union (AU) and eight (8) Regional Economic Communities (RECs).  

The AfCFTA is a flagship project of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, the AU's long-term strategy to transform the continent into a global powerhouse.

The African Union AfCFTA Internship Program aims to bring highly qualified and motivated students with diverse backgrounds into the Secretariat to work on projects aligned with the Secretariat's strategic orientations and support its corporate functions.

The program's primary goal is to equip successful candidates with enhanced analytical and technical skills in an international setting.

The AfCFTA seeks students with adequate knowledge and skills in relevant fields to serve as interns for a specified period, gaining practical experience and international exposure.

Selected interns will have the opportunity to contribute firsthand to one of the African Union's most ambitious projects.

Requirements To be considered for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Internship Program, you must:

  • Be a citizen of an African Union Member State residing in Ghana.
  • Be a final-year student enrolled full-time in a fully accredited degree program at a recognized public or private institution of higher learning in International Trade, International Trade Law & Policy, Economics, or International Law.
  • Be available for a minimum of three months, the program's duration.
  • Be proficient in one of the AU's official working languages (French, English, Portuguese, Arabic, Kiswahili, or Spanish) with fluency in another AU language being an advantage.
  • Possess a high level of quantitative and IT skills (tests will be administered).
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Be capable and willing to work in a multicultural and international team environment.
  • Be committed to upholding the institution's rules and values throughout the program.
  • Female candidates are encouraged to apply.
